Please refer to APPLICATION PROCEDURES [Pursuant to Chapter 53 of the Acts of 2020] for application procedures in effect in the Town of East Longmeadow during the state of emergency. Please note that all application submission requirements, including application fees, remain in full effect. All application submission questions should be directed by email to the applicable permit granting authority as set forth in the Permit.
It is recommended to make an appointment with the Planning and Community Development Department staff prior to dropping off plans.
All plans must be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to the meeting date per the Planning Board Chair's request

Duties & Responsibilities
- The Planning Department serves as the professional and technical staff for residents of East Longmeadow and all developers for subdivisions and all types of business, commercial, and industrial proposals. The staff is dedicated to managing development in an efficient, effective, and equitable manner. It is the goal of this department to provide clear, accurate, and timely information to the public concerning planning and development activities within the Town of East Longmeadow.
- The office works collaboratively with the Building Department, Public Works, Board of Selectmen, Board of Health, and the Police and Fire Departments to help operate the town hall as a fully-functional citizen service hub.
- The Planning Department is primarily responsible for processing applications for approval of commercial, business, and industrial plans. As the Planning Board is the Special Permit Granting Authority and sole approvers of residential, commercial, and business subdivisions, as well as ANR plans, the department staff also serves as the professional and technical staff for the processing of applications for those types of projects.
- All new businesses must meet with the staff with regard to signage requests and locations prior to operating any business. Also, any residents who desire a home office must meet with the Planning Staff prior to using any space in a residential home for an office.
